Chairman's Chat

Hi ELHCers,
At the AGM I said I had three focus areas I’d work on this year as Chairman:
1. Improving transparency and communications across the club
2. Ensuring the selection process were working effectively
3. Delivering fun and fairness for all club members
I’ll be working with the Exec Committee at our first meeting in a couple of weeks’ time to work out what we’ll be doing to deliver this. Since we’ll be sharing the minutes of all our meetings, you’ll all be able to see how this went!
However in the meantime, if there are any ideas you have on these topics, I’d love to hear them. Please email me at chairman@elhockey.co.uk
One thing you will be seeing is my regular “Chairman’s Chat” (if you’re unsure what that is, you’re reading the first ever one!). I’m hoping these will give you an idea of what’s going on in the club and what we’re thinking about for the future. At the moment we’re all going through the handover process between the incumbent and new committee members, so it’s a period of transition. However there’s still be plenty going on, with organising social hockey and making sure we’re all sorted for summer league (just the summer M3s are left to find a home for).
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the two Exec Committee members who stood down from their positions this year. Over the last two years as Treasurer, Karen Allen has put a huge amount of time into professionalising our accounting and processes, handling payment requirements and ensuring the club is insured. Her diligence is the main reason the club is on healthy financial ground. As Chairman, Nick Ding has set me a hard act to follow, having been the figurehead of the club for a number of years and a friendly face welcoming in new members, be that on the pitch or into the pub. The amount of time they’ve put in behind the scenes is more than most of us spend playing and training.
