The last three weekends have seen East London / The Untouchables taking part in Fun in the Forest, Essex 7s and Milton Keynes Tour. At each event it was great to see members from all different teams and abilities across the club come together to enjoy some fun hockey, socialising together and the occasional bit of drinking. And this balance was shown in our high performance in the Most Socialable Team rankings, as well as coming away from two of the three events with silverware.
Beforehand, during the events and behind the scenes, a lot of work goes on to make this happen. Obviously the organisers in chief, Charlotte Burge and Alice Varley, do an amazing job of coordinating and cajoling everything and everyone so that it all comes together. But also, there are many others that help, including Lorna Smythe, Ben Scott and Sukhdeep Gill in reconciling the payments; Mark Prince, Laura Wilkins, Roos Saalbrink & the other captains who look after teams and all those people who step up during the events to help out with umpiring, logistics or ensure everyone remains hydrated.
If you’ve never been on a tour, it may all sound a bit overwhelming, but it’s the best way to get to know people across the club. To get a feeling of what it’s like, why not come along and watch the ELHC 25th Anniversary Tournament on 30th/31st July – there’ll be as much fun going on off the pitch as on it.
