East London HC Youth is back!
Posted by Nobody on 6 September 2016
Sessions start again on the 18th of September, 10:00am-11:30am at Mile End Park Astro. New players aged 6 to 16 are very welcome!
Now in its 5th year, the East London HC Youth section has had a great past year! And it is set to grow even bigger with many young people and parents asking about hockey over the summer, especially after the brilliant success of the Team GB women's hockey team at the Rio Olympics! This year will also see the addition of a Flyerz group - hockey for young people with disabilities - to our youth section.
Highlights of the past year for our youth section have certainly included meeting and playing with the Team GB women's team at Lee Valley, several strongly contested matches against our friends from FREFlyers and an U16 friendly against Ross on Wye Hockey with Walthamforest HC. We also had many of our young players playing (and sometimes even scoring goals!) in the U14 Mercian hockey leagues and the Essex adult leagues last year. We had over 20 new players joining last year - the youngest players are currently 5 years old and really love playing games.
This all couldn't happen without our brilliant coaches and volunteers - they come down every Sunday morning to make this great hockey club even better and a great asset for the local community. All our coaches are DBS checked and many of them have a hockey coaching qualification. This year we also had some new faces join the youth team at East London - Simone Tudor is the new Youth Secretary and Ceylan Gomez is the Child Welfare Officer. Ceylan will also be taking the Flyerz project forward, together with our club president Roger Lilleystone.
We are now looking for some new volunteers and coaches to help with our different age groups (under 10s, 10-13 years and 13+) and new Flyerz section. Training takes place every Sunday during the season, 10:00am-11:30am at Mile End. So if you like to work with children, want to try out coaching, add something extra to your CV or just want to give back to the orange club you love, this could be a great opportunity.
As a regular coach you will also benefit from reduced entry for club events and the club will cover the cost of England Hockey coaching courses for you. It doesn't matter which team you have played in or how long you have been with the club, as long as you can spare some Sunday mornings and want to help our youth and Flyerz section grow next season.
We are looking to have a youth volunteers meeting very soon and will also set up a coaching introduction for all new volunteers and coaches in September. If you are interested in being involved, please get in touch: youth@elhockey.co.uk
