Kicking Cancer's Butt & L'Ump Month
Posted by Amy MacKenzie on 13 October 2019
Firstly, a big thank you to everyone who has donated, baked, played in tournaments, bought raffle tickets, bid in auctions and bet on derbys to help raise money for Suzie Clair Aries Kicking Cancer's Butt so far!
This morning, we're also delighted to announce we are joining forces with L'Ump month (run by some heroes at Wapping) to spread the word about cancer awareness. L'Ump Month specifically targets Breast Cancer Awareness, but the group has been moved by our fundraising for Suzie and have offered to help spread the word about that too, which is fantastic!
So what's involved? Three simple things - we umpire in pink, spread the word about both causes, and ask people to donate. More information on their Twitter page and donation page. L'Ump month have kindly offered to split their donations with Suzie, and have added her info to all their posts and pages (even got a mention in this England Hockey post). Last year, L'Ump month reached as far as Australia - a real example of the hockey family uniting together around a great cause - so let's join forces to raise money and awareness all together!
Final thing - if you are umpiring in pink or see someone else umpiring in pink throughout October, please take a picture and send it to Lara Brown and Nick Short so we can continue to spread the message far and wide!
Any questions, contact myself or Dan Carter (DC) from Wapping.
Amy, Secretary
Ps. Don't own a pink umpiring shirt? Buy yours here! All proceeds going to the charities!
