East London Christmas Hockey

Saturday Home Matches

Ladies 2s

The unstoppable 2s were on the top of their game against Southend at Lee Valley. They were patient and strong in the first half leading to a 0-0 scoreline. They could sense the win in their sight and continued to create opportunities. After taking a 1-0 lead, they controlled the possession and held on until the final whistle. The L3s finish the year top of the league and unbeaten in all 2016 league matches. Here’s to 2017 being as successful!

Ladies 4s

In the first of three games against Havering this weekend, the L4s took on their 2s at Mile End. East were in control right from the off with all the possession and dictating the play. Showing that training is definitely paying off for the team, they finished 2016 on a high winning 6-0.

East London Mixed 1 vs. East London Mixed 2

In an exciting and nail-biting games the Mixed 1s took on the Mixed 2s on a Saturday! Although many of the women were playing Essex league games, the match soldier on and turned out to be a very close encounter. 2-1 at half-time to the 1s, the match was still everything to play for until the 1s extended their league and went 4-1 up. By miraculous skill and maybe a bit of luck, the 2s managed to fight their way back to one behind before equalising on the final whistle.

Saturday’s Away Matches

Ladies 7s (friendly)

The L7s went to Upminster for a match to play Upminster 5s. The game was played in great spirit and was enjoyed by all, although some felt a little distracted by rugby men and Christmas parties. Some good goals were scored on both sides and East were happy to come away with a 2-2 draw.

Ladies 5s

The L5s travelled all the way to Southend to play their 2s and weren’t coming away without a victory. With the promise of plenty of Apple Sourz after the game they were committed to earning their fun. Despite the oppositions stalling tactics they came away with a decisive 3-0 win.

Ladies 3s

The L3s had a tough match again on Saturday against Havering 2s away. With heads struggling to focus on the game and not the party logistics, East couldn’t quite capitalise on the opportunities they earned. Fighting until the final whistle, the L3s came away with a 2-2 draw keeping them in the running but not securing chances of promotion next season.

Sunday Mixed Christmas Match

Nursing a combination of drinks, sticks and hangovers, a motley crew of elves, reindeer, snowmen and Christmas trees took to the pitch at John Orwell. The match featured a sleigh full of stick tackles, snow shortage of goals and an admirable amount of consumption given last night's exertions. We’ve not sure what the final score was but it was loads of fun.
