M6s vs M7s

Ladies 8s

The newly formed L8s took on Tulse Hill & Dalston at Mile End. From the beginning they were cast as the underdogs when the opposition turned up with a goalie (sadly our team didn't have one).

Unfortunately, a quick goal from Tulse Hill within the first few minutes set the tone of the match. While there was some good passing and runs from East, the opposition were the more experienced side and made the most of opportunities that came their way. East found their rhythm in the second half even getting the ball into the opposition's D! But unfortunately it was to no avail with a final score of 0-14.

Men’s 6s vs Men’s 7s

Many would have thought Arsenal vs Chelsea was going to be the big derby match of the weekend but they'd be wrong. The real derby action was at Mile End Astro, as the newly promoted M7s took on the M6s.

The M6s raced off the blocks from the opening whistle but the M7s soon worked their way into the game, scoring the first goal and putting the M7s 1-0 up. Their lead was short-lived and the M6s equalised minutes later to make it 1-1 at the break.

After a sweet reverse strike in the second half putting the 7s back into the lead, the 6s followed suit equalising again, but this time from a short-corner, finishing the game with a 2-2 draw.

Ladies 7s

In the L7s first match of the season the team started a little bit disorganised as it was their first time playing together. Near the end of the first half, East pushed the ball behind the goalkeeper, scoring the first goal of the match.

The second half was more organised with better communication, generating loads of opportunities. East were able to score 2 more goals from the space they created, ending their first game with a 3-0 victory!

Men’s 2s

There isn’t much known about the M2s match, except that Luke Taylor did something understatedly brilliant, Ben Howson can never win and Captain Dom went down with a pulled hamstring. What you need to know is they beat Wapping 5s 7-3 and ended their 25 game winning streak.

Men’s 8s

The M8s dominated in the early minutes of their game against Malden Academy. It was only a matter of time until they scored after great link up play. And another goal followed soon after this. In the second half East continued their dominance with scoring 2 further goals. They nearly let Malden back into the game with some risky playing strategies before scoring a final goal to finish the match 5-0.

Men’s 3s

The M3s scrambled to Saffron Walden to take on their 2s. Things didn't go very well after getting mocked by the spectators before the game even started. East won the game of cards 2-0 (not sure if they knew it was a hockey match or poker tournament) but sadly lost the game of hockey 6-2. However, there were positives, including getting burgers for teas, driving through Ugley and Karl Khan becoming Kyle. Thanks goes to Andy Moncur for keeping the score moderately respectable

Ladies 4s

L4s missioned to a sunny Havering to play their 3s. The first half was lively with lots of possession, lots of shorts but unfortunately not many goals. An accurately placed ball from the halfway line found its way into the D, which was then slotted away taking East into a 1-0 lead.

In the second half the L4s went at Havering seeking a second goal but due to post-phobia, East failed to find the backboard. Following a disallowed goal, a free player on the opposition’s side appeared from nowhere allowing Havering to score, taking the result to an agonising 1-1 draw.

Men’s 4s

In a story similar to last week, the M4s controlled the majority of the play but struggled to find the net losing their game 4-2 against Upminster 3s. The less said the better, onwards and upwards!

Ladies 5s

L5s 5-0 winning streak continued and this time they actually got to play! A dynamic rollerball warmup meant the L5s up we were ready to smash a win in their first actual league game.

Excellent play was shown from everyone, including seeing a lot of training exercises put into action such as back passing and switches, beautiful deflections and fantastic first touches!

Ladies 3s

The L3's knew they’d have their work cut out for them as Havering 2s were promoted alongside East last season. They came out swinging and, after absorbing a lot of pressure at the start of the match, East scored two goals in quick succession using some lovely passing and finishing.

The L3s were in control for the majority of the match, scoring four more goals - including a particularly lovely goal with beautiful team passing. Somehow Havering managed to sneak a couple of (consolation) goals past us near the end. In the end the L3s smashed it with a beautiful 6-2 win!

Ladies 1s

It was a disappointing day of hockey for L1s resulting in a 1-1 draw against Canterbury 2As. The opposition were clearly happy with the result and that's never a good sign. East looked like the better team for long periods of the game and got the lead from a great penalty corner deflection. However they failed to create clear chances in the D or to gain more penalty corners and ensure the win at an early stage. After a long period of pressing Canterbury high in their own half in the second half, they eventually broke through and scored of a well-worked penalty for the equaliser.

Ladies 6s

A fantastic first home match of the season for L6s against Havering 4s with a high percentage of possession during the first half and some great runs. With seconds to go until half-time - and still 0-0, the umpires called a short corner. The pressure was on, but with a frantic attempt to keep the ball in the D before the whistle went, the L6s managed to score a great first goal to taking them to 1-0. The second half started with more great passes and teamwork. Everyone had a strong game displaying very impressive, determined play. The hard work paid off and they scored a further goal taking the team to a 2-0 victory.

Ladies 2s

The L2s were ready and raring for their second game of the season against Southend 1s. Southend came out strong and East ended up 1-0 down within the first 5 minutes, but refusing to let this affect their game, quickly pulled themselves together and maintained their structure which lead to some strong passages of play. The first short corner resulted in East’s first goal of the match - an impressive mid air volley. Dominating the second half, the L2s went on to score another great goal from a short corner The game ended as 2-1 win - a great result for the team.

Men’s 1s

The M1s lost to Wapping 2s, 0-2. They will get over it (eventually) and are already concentrating on their next match. Enough said there.

Men’s 5s

Then M5s reverted to type, electing to play terribly yet still win. The match started reasonably well, with sustained pressure, but they weren't quite able to translate it into goals.

Half time came, 2-0 up and although captain Jefferson Courtney told them to stop playing terribly. They decided to not do that. Woeful passing, dribbling, losing the ball and general buffoonery led to the oppo scoring from their 27th short corner. After 15 minutes of panicked hockey, the final whistle went leaving the M5s with a thankful 2-1 win.
