L6s vs Wapping at Lee Valley

Saturday’s Home Matches

Ladies 3s

Flying high after beating top on the league last week, the L3s were soon knocked back down in their game against Waltham Forest 2s. A typical slow start saw the team go 0-1 down in the first half. This slow start continued in the second half, conceding a further goal. 2 minutes from full-time East scored off a short corner and suddenly came to life. But it was too late. Final score 1-2 loss.

Ladies 1s

The L1s showed off their skills on Saturday against a friendly Waltham Forest side. The held the majority of possession throughout the game and dominated in the opposition’s D scoring 2 goals in the first half and a further 2 in the second. Final score, an impressive 4-1 win.

Men’s 5s

Not content with another 1-0 win, the M5s wanted more in their game against Witham 3s. They had plenty of opportunities throughout the match but failed to capitalise. But a win’s a win so they can’t be too disappointed.

Men’s 2s

In an epic match, our M2s and M3s took to Lee Valley in the first conflict game of the season. The M3s were keen to show they’re just as eager for promotion as the M2s and both teams came out fighting from the first whistle. Although it was a tight match, the M2s showed they weren’t going to give anything away this time around winning decisively 4-0. Their next match-up will be the final game of the season.

Ladies 5s

In their classic, outstanding form, the L5s continued to win big on Saturday. Braintree 2s were no match for their awesome goal scoring abilities even with a shaky 2-1 half-time lead. Spurred on by a positive team talk, they came out firing scoring 5 further goals. Another amazing 7-1 win for the L5s!

Men’s 7s

The M7s showed they meant business in their game against Witham 4s. They had fantastic movement and passing all match giving them loads of options and chances to score. An amazing work rated paid off leading to a 4-1 win.

M2s vs M3s

Saturday’s Away Matches

Men’s 8s

The M8s had an exciting match against Brentwood 5s with goals going back and forth like a game of table tennis. They had plenty of chances to score with many short corners but not many goals. Finding themselves 1-2 down, they upped their intensity and came back to take the win match 3-2.

Braintree vs. Ladies 2s

Still top of the league and still unbeaten, the L2s were tested this weekend by Braintree. Unlike their other games so far this season they went into half-time a goal down. They managed to equalise in the second half, taking the score to 2-2 but the opposition came right back with a goal of their own. Determined to retain their impressive record, they fought to the bitter end and manage to pull out a 3-3.

Ladies 4s

Keen not to be out-done by the L5s, the L4s showed that they can also pull out a big score when it matters. Taking on Waltham Forest 3, East started in a similar vein taking a 2-0 lead in the first half. They piled on the pressure in the second half and the opposition crumbled leaving East to score 5 further goals and conceding only 1. Final score, another 7-1 win.

Men’s 4s

The M4s had an exciting comeback in their game against Witham 2s. Chasing a 1-4 scoreline, they managed to bring the score back level in the final 15 minutes of the match. If only they had fought like that from the beginning!

East London Sparrows

In their first of two games this weekend the Sparrows took on the London Accies, who clearly hadn’t signed up to the spirit of the Tower League, fielding some very strong players. East put up a good fight and showed that they were here to play hockey and enjoy themselves, despite losing 0-11.

Men’s 6s

In a tough game against Saffron Walden 6s, the M6s fought until the bitter end to try and secure a victory. It was hard work keeping touch of the score with both teams taking the lead and then letting the other equalise. At 4-3 East thought they had finally put the game to but but the opposition had other ideas and equalised in the final minutes to come away with a 4-4 draw.

Men’s 1s

The M1s took the long two hour journey to play Norwich City 2s on Saturday. Neither team finding their form in the first half lead to 0-0 score at half-time. After a motivating team talk they came back out firing and ready to dominate the game. They scored off a slightly messy short corner, defended well after going doing to 9 men and then put the game to bed with another goal. 2-0 victory makes it worth the long journey, almost.

Ladies 6s

L6s took on Wapping in one of the most exciting games of the season. A full crowd of spectators heightened the tense atmosphere as the unbeaten Easy side took on their local rivals. Goal went back and forth between the two sides leading to a nail-biting finish with East scoring the final goal and taking the win 3-2.

Sunday’s Matches

East London Sparrows

Up for round two, the Sparrows faced local rivals Wapping in their second game of the weekend. Unfortunately they were a player down in this game the opposition made the most of this. The Sparrows couldn’t capitalise on their chances and despite playing a fantastic game of hockey came away with a 0-5 defeat. You’ll get them next time!

East London Ravens

The Raven’s had a very difficult game against Tulse Hill & Dulwich on Sunday. Although they put in 100%, the opposition we just too strong this week. They had fun though and that’s what matters, who cares about the final 1-11 score expect to say well done for scoring East!

Ladies 2s (Plate match)

The L2s, supported by some L3s, took on a very strong Chelmsford 2s side and although there was a shaky start East had much of the possession. The score doesn’t reflect the close game and many opportunities East had to score, especially in the second half with multiple short corners. Overall the L2s played very well and came away with an unfortunate 1-3 loss taking them out of the plate competition.

East London Ladies Masters

In their second fixture of the knockout Masters tournament, the newly formed East London Ladies Masters took on a strong Hertford side. Unfortunately East were down to 10 players and found that the extra player really made the difference. The game felt a lot closer than the scoreline suggests and 0-5 loss doesn’t say anything about the great experience the Masters team has had in its first season. Although they are now out of the tournament the team is already arranging friendly matches for the new year. Congratulations ladies!
