League Match Round-up - 5th & 6th November

Saturday's Home Matches

Ladies 7s

Spurred on by reinforcements, the L7s showed Upminster 5s that they meant business from the off. They dominated the match throughout, going into the second half with a 4-0 lead. They kept the pressure on right until the end and finished the game with an impressive 8-0 win.

Men's 1s

At home to Cambridge City 3s, the M1s put on an exciting show taking the lead early in game and then letting to opposition back into the running. The same happened in the second half taking the score to nail-biting 2-2, until an unexpected drag flick put East in the lead and the winning seat, 3-2.

Men's 3s

In a Wapping 5s vs East M3s derby game, East showed their strength and patience holding the score at 0-0 up until the final 10 minutes. Discipline and fitness paying off, they scored the winning goal from a great run down the right wing and classy pull back that was slotted home.

Ladies 2s

Continuing their unbeaten run, the L2 defeated Thurrock in a physical match to seize the top of the league spot. They showed their skill with an confident 4-1 win and now set their sights firmly on promotion for the second season in a row.

Ladies 4s

The L4s started strong against Old Southendian but unfortunately couldn’t keep up, conceding a goal just before half-time. They came out fighting in the second half and equalised early on from a short corner, but the opposition upped their game and scored two further goals. Final score, 1-3 loss.

Men's 4s

The M4s weren’t scared of taking on a strong Chelmsford 3s side. They took an early 1-0 lead and went into half-time eager for more. Following many great saves from East’s goalie, Chelmsford equalised with a baseball-style shot. East combatted this by scoring two more goals. Unfortunately they conceded a short corner following the final whistle but a still a strong result for the 4s with a 3-2 win.

Men's 6s

In a typical slow start, the M6s went down in the first 10 minutes against Basildon ODF 1. This was clearly a plan to get the crowd behind them as the equalised before half-time. Revived by haribo, they didn’t give the opposition a chance in the second half and came away victorious with an exciting 4-1 win.

Saturday's Away Matches

Ladies 3s

L3s faced a tough side on Saturday and suffered only their second loss of the season to a strong Old Loughtonians 3s. Although they warmed up well, the opposition scored an early goal putting East on the back foot. East went out fighting after half-time with the score at 1-2 but the tactics weren’t clear enough, resulting in a 2-5 loss.

Ladies 5s

Clearly the strong side, the L5s powered through for a characteristically impressive 6-0 win over Crostyx 3. There was lots of great goal scoring in the first half taking them to a 4-0 lead. After scoffing lots Haribos at the break, they were ready for the opposition’s fight back and even managed to extend their lead.

Men's 7s

The M7s put in a strong and strategic performance against a skilled Old Loughts Loppers side. East kept their cool and took a 2-1 lead in the second half after some quick breaks and risky play from the opposition that didn’t pay off taking them down to 9 men for a few minutes.

Men's 2s

Back on top form after last week’s blip, the M2s scored early against Redbridge & Ilford 1s. Some questionable umpiring meant East went into half-time with a 2-1 lead. But this wasn’t enough for them so in the second half they stormed away winning 6-1.

Ladies 1s

The L1s had a fantastic game on Saturday beating Burnt Ash 1s and taking the spot at the top of the league. East came out hard and fast showing the opposition who was in charge of the game. After scoring the first goal East defended and attacked with great patience. Although there were more opportunities, they were happy with a well-deserved 1-0 win.

Men's 8s

The M8s held onto their unbeaten run and remain at the top of the league after beating Thurrock 3s 3-0. Their performance wasn’t perfect; they gave the opposition too much space in midfield and missed a couple of opportunities, but they still did enough to keep their title.

Men's 5s

It was a game of mixed performances for the M5s. The struggled to maintain their hold on the gaming, taking the lead, letting the opposition back in, taking the lead and then giving the oppo more opportunities. Luckily the managed to hold them off winning the game 2-1 and cementing their second place position in the league.

Ladies 6s

Although much of the team weren’t used to playing together, the L6s worked together well to beat Old Loughtonians 5s. They piled on the pressure in the second half and worked the opposition defense from all sides to score two impressive goals and come away with a 2-0 victory.

Sunday Matches

East London Mixed 2

The Mixed 2s came out a little flat against SAS and conceded 2 goals in the first half. After a positive team chat, they came out much more pumped up and won the second half 2-1. Although the final score was a 3-2 loss, the team put in a good performance overall.

East London Mixed 1

Despite cold and wet conditions, the Mixed 1s showed their calibre beating the London Royals to take the top of the league spot. Many goals came from various members of the team, the score isn’t important but East definitely won.
