Friday friendlies

Ladies 7s friendly

The L7s immediately cancelled all their Friday night plans and to play a friendly match against Dulwich and Tulse Hill. Although the opposition spent most of the game commenting on East’s excellent ball skills, they weren't able to capitalise on the amount of time they spent in the oppo's D, so both teams managed to walk away with a clean sheet.

Saturday league matches

Men's 8s

M8s started the day off in the early slot at Mile End. They took the lead after a strong start but looked to have thrown the game away when they conceded three without reply. However, they fought back and deservedly came away with a 3-3 draw.

Men's 2s

M2s kept up their streak of straight wins and pushed their average goals a game to seven with an 8-0 drubbing of an uninspired Thurrock.

Men's 6s

M6s played in this week’s East-Wapping Derby. There was plenty of end-to-end action where the two sides traded goals throughout the game culminating in a last minute penalty stroke for East to claim the draw. However, it was not to be when former East goalie Rik easily saved Hiren Amin’s push-flick.

Ladies 3s

The L3s faced their first real challenge to the season, trailing 2-1 to Basildon’s 2s at half-time - a position they haven’t been in yet. However they fought back in the second half with gutsy play and fantastic finishing to take match out of Baildon’s hands, 4-2.

Men's 4s

M4s played top of the league Braintree and came away with a 1-1 draw. However, despite this they were disappointed with the result as they were the time who kept the work rate high and should have had chances to secure the win.

Ladies 8s/9s

The Sparrows/Ravens (L8/9s or Jets/Sharks) played a slightly mixed London Academicals. Unfortunately the Academicals could only field 4 players so East London covered most of their side too. The first half started with couple of quick goals by the Academicals and it soon transpired their four players were quite good. Nonetheless East carried on both sides… The final score was 16-0 to the Blues but East took it as a win because it was mainly East players on the pitch so no a win win situation all round really.

Ladies 5s

With some of the key players unavailable to play, the L5s welcomed new faces to the team for their match against Thurrock 3s. The opposition only had 10 players so East were able to dominate the play and put into practice a lot of drills and skills learnt recently at training. They pressed high and created lots of chances (and loads of short corners) which led to a decisive 4-0 win.

Ladies 6s

L6's carried on their winning streak beating Braintree 4-0. They came out strong and fearless and were hungry… for goals (and pizza). The midfield players support the gamewell and led to some cracking goals being scored in quick succession.

Ladies 2s

The L2s continued their undefeated league title with a 2-0 win against Basildon 2s. They went out strong from the whistle, maintained their structure and waited for their opportunities to score. A strategic victory as well!

Ladies 1s

East London ladies 1s frustrated Tunbridge Wells 2s this weekend with their great pressure, passing and ability to create attacking short corners. The first half saw a well-drilled routine produce the game’s goal and this led East to be in front at half time. There were plenty of skills and dynamic runs from East leading to several short corners. L1s showed their pedigree winning score 3-0.

Men's 1s

M1s played Harleston Magpies and were clinical with their first couple shorts to take an early lead which they fought hard to maintain until the end, finishing 4-2 up.

Men's 3s

M3s travelled to sunny Clacton, got knocked around a bit, but came away with their first win of the season 4-1. Onwards and upwards from here!

Ladies 4s

L4s had a tricky start going down 1-0 in the first five minutes against Redbridge and Ilford but heck did they come back fighting. After scoring an equaliser early in the second half, they stepped up the pace and became a lot more aggressive. The game finished in 2-1 in their favour with East scoring a penalty flick with a minute to go!

Men's 5s

M5s went away to Colchester where they once again made a meal of what could have been a simple victory. With the scoreline 1-1 after buckets of short corners for both sides, it was a late break and a goal for Max Turner that sealed the 2-1 victory.

Men's 7s

M7s however, suffered their first defeat this year. They fought back from 2-0 down but conceded some more to lose 5-3.

L1/2 winners

Sunday's matches

Ladies 1s Cup

The Ladies 1 & 2 squad assembled early at Mile End for a long minibus trek to Lincoln. After brilliant results for both teams of late, spirits were high and they were ready to bring to take on Lindum Hockey club who play in north div 1. They didn't let this phase them in the slightest and despite Lindum firing on all cylinders, scored some epic goals coming away with an outstanding 2-0 result!

Mixed 2s

Mix2s were standardly hungover and underprepared for their match which meant that despite halftime prosecco and oranges the final score was 5-0 to the opposition.
