Match Report from Suzie's Fundraising tournament - 29th September 2019

Posted by Amy MacKenzie on 6 October 2019

Our very own Suzie needs your help to help raise £250,000 to save her life

East London Hockey Club traversed across London last weekend to Wycombe High School to play some very soggy 7-a-side hockey and raise money for Suzie's Immunotherapy treatment.

You can still donate here.

4 East teams were present at the tournament, made up of 2 minibusses and some train contingents. Some very damp hockey was played, some raffle prizes were won and many cakes were sold and eaten.

A massive thank you from Suzie and the whole club to everyone who came to the tournament, as well as everyone else who has donated and shared the fundraising page so far. Particular shout out to the Ladies 4s for running an amazing bake sale, and to Christina Hegarty, Alice Varley, Charlotte Burge, Issy Burkitt, Joe May, Jo Coughlan, Cat Weber, Stacey Nicholl and Amy MacKenzie for organizing the ELHC-end of the tournament.

The tournament raised £4360 - including more than £500 from the Ladies 4s bake sale. This is on top of all the amazing individuals who have personally donated to Suzie's fundraising so far.

Thank you to everyone who attended Suzie's fundraising hockey tournament

And in other fundraising news, the Ladies 6s have a lucky new charm for their games after becoming the highest bidders on a signed mini England Hockey stick, kindly donated by Chloe Russell. This has added another £200 to Suzie's fundraising, taking the running total to more than £104,000.

A mini hockey stick signed by the GB Hockey Team
As part of the continuing events, we're looking for donations to join the contribution our president has sourced in a current men's GB team signed shirt! Joe May will start an online auction (to be shared with the wider hockey committee) for this. We'd love to add a few other items to go with it if possible, so if you have any fantastic hockey items (or any sport, happy to open it up) that you'd like to donate - or are able to source - then let Joe know.

Also, below is an event that's open to everyone, not just our club. The aim is to travel to work in a way that's free of charge, such as cycling or walking, then donate the money saved on the travel to Suzie's cause. So, for instance, you travel from Zone 2 to Zone 1 and back on the tube, you'll donate the £5.80 you saved. This doesn't seem much, but if we can get 100 people to do it it will soon add up. We're planning on doing this on 16th October (or, if you fancy it, you can join Joe May in doing it the whole month). This is open to everyone, so spread it to your work, your family, your worst enemies!
