You Spoke, We Listened: Survey Results at East London Hockey Club

A huge thank you to everyone who completed our end-of-season club survey. Your feedback helps us celebrate what’s working and focus on what needs improving. Here’s a snapshot of what you told us.

What’s Working Well

You told us that East London Hockey Club is a place where people feel welcome, supported, and part of a positive community. The friendly atmosphere and strong sense of club spirit were clear highlights. Our volunteering efforts also stood out—especially the structured youth volunteering programme and the smooth, pressure-free approach to umpiring.

Coaching and training received high praise, as well as our presence and comms through social media channels. Friday Night Lights, summer socials, and the End-of-Season celebrations were also appreciated. And of course, Rusty Bike teas were a firm favourite! You also recognised the value of our competitive fees, noting the great balance between cost and quality - still one of the most competitive in London

Where We Can Improve

You raised some important areas for development:

  • Socials were an area flagged for improvement: Events seemed last-minute and not advertised well enough. 
  • Communication needs attention: Communication around selection, socials, and club updates was sometimes unclear or too late. The website had been rarely updated and the newsletter unfortunately was paused.
  • Selection: There’s a clear call for a more transparent, club-wide selection policy with consistent criteria.

Our Executive, Playing and Operations Committees have been working hard over the summer to address this feedback! 

Over the course of the season, expect to see:

  • Improved Comms: We have appointed an additional Communications Officer to the committee responsible for maintaining the website and reinstating the newsletter. Comms this season will be clear, timely and accessible across multiple platforms, including through the club WhatsApp Channel. We are also determined to promote the club in the best possible light as it celebrates its 35th Anniversary this season. You will have hopefully seen the difference in this already!
  • Our Social calendar released pre-season - thank you to our Social Secs who have already confirmed dates for the first half of the season! We’re also already looking at exciting End of Season venues!
  • More consistency with selection policy - our Club Captains have been refining our policy and will be sharing this with captains at the start of the season.

The club would be nothing without its fantastic members and your Committees are always open to further feedback. Therefore, if you have any further suggestions on what more can be done to make this season better than ever, please do not hesitate to get in contact with elhcsec@gmail.com.
