Jefferson's Round-up - 17th & 18th September
Posted by Nobody on 21 September 2016
Strong intra and pre-season work as well as an influx of new talent over the summer have bolstered the ELHC’s teams. So, the first Saturday of the season proper saw the club lose just one of the games putting us in a strong position for the bulk of the club to be pushing for promotion this season.
Ladies don’t concede a goal all day
Across 6 games ELHC ladies may only have scored 12 goals (5 of which were due to the L5s walkover when their opposition pulled out on Thursday) but they were super solid at the back conceding none.
L3s got clever on their first short corner and put away a well worked goal. As they settled into the game more chances came but the one goal was enough for the win. L2s also played Wapping and with a P-stroke just before half time and another goal just after were 2-0 winners.
L1s looked a very strong side this year and never let Ashford into their game away in Kent. Two goals scored by Carla Quevedo deflected in by opposing defenders were plenty for East to control the game to its inevitable conclusion.
L6s outplayed Southend with brilliant passing and gave them few chances to equalise and winning from Sarah Greaves’ goal.
L4s had a frustrating game with some great game play at both ends of pitch but unfortunately couldn't capitalise on this in the great play - coming away with a 0-0 draw.
For the rest of the Ladies the season hasn’t quite kicked off yet but that didn’t stop them taking over Mile End on Friday evening for a good run around.
6 wins, a draw and a loss for the Men
Both M4s and M5s played against Old Southendians, who true to their name were off the pace, and both came away with wins. M5s thumped a team that only managed 2 wins last season 7-2, while M4s scored once at fortress Mile End and staunchly defended their 1-0 lead until full time.
The M8s scored 7 goals to their oppositions none but going a couple better the M2s, only 3-0 up at half time over Upminster built on that with a further six goals in the second half. They look set to dominate a league they only narrowly missed getting prompted from last season.
In 7SE, newly prompted M7s showed that they will still be comfortable in the league above getting a 2-2 draw this week while M6s should be the team to beat with a 5-1 victory.
However, M3 squandered a 3-2 lead to eventually lose 5-3.
In other games
To cap off the weekend even the ne’er-do-wells the Mix2s got a draw with a post final whistle P-stroke scored by Hiren Amin.
