John Drew

It is with great sadness that East London HC announces the death of John Drew. Some or most of you may not have had the honor of knowing John but the fact that East London is now as big a club as it is, is in part down to it's success in it's earlier years. Success then was measured more on a social scale as well as on pitch. John was a major player in this success. Anybody who met John would never be able to forget him. His renditions of Delilah and Ernie had people singing along in Belgium, Italy, France, Scotland, the isle of Man and up the Mile End Rd. John was full of life and people could never understand how someone could enjoy themselves so much without being drunk. John had a presence about him that infected others with his enthusiasm. He was a rock in a hard place for many people and even when he had problems of his own, he would put others first. He will be missed by very many people and hockey tours will never be the same again. To John's son, Ben, we hope that some day soon you will come to know what a great man your dad was and how deeply he affected peoples lived.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this very sad time.
