L5s

Saturday's Home Matches

Ladies 4s

The L4s had a great game against Chelmsford 4s early on Saturday morning. All the hard work on short corners at training has clearly started paying off putting them 1-0 up. The opposition equalised early in the second half but East weren’t put off scoring two more goals and successful defending 4 short corners in a row! Final score 3-1 win.

Men’s 1s

M1s showed Shefford & Sandy that they weren’t afraid of their top of the table, unbeaten record but ruining their winning streak with a 4-1 victory. East showed their strength, dominating throughout against a team that was clearly used to being in control.

Men’s 3s

Unfortunately the M3s couldn’t quite keep up their winning streak and returned to their form of frustrating losses instead. Although there was some skillful hockey being played and the M3s dominated most of the first half, Maldon 1s were too good in the second, leaving East with a 1-2 loss.

Men’s 6s

The M6s were back on top this week with a comprehensive victory over Saffron Walden 5s. After a slow start, East picked up the tempo leaving our goalkeeper with little to do over the remaining 70mins. Final score, 4-1 win.

Ladies 2s

It was an exciting and eventful for game for the L4s against Wapping 3s on Saturday. Keen to continue their 6-match winning streak and remain top of the table, the L3s came out fighting and ready to go. East scored first, then Wapping equalised, then East scored again, then their was a short corner given to Wapping right at the final whistle. East bravely saved the goal but incurred a bad injury leaving the 2-1 win with a slightly sour taste.

Ladies 7s

L7s defeated Chelmsford 7s in style scoring 3 goals early on in the match. Chelmsford came out stronger in the second half but this didn’t throw East off and they went on to score a 4th goal, leaving the final score at 4-0.

Men’s 8s

The M8s returned to their winning form following frustrating draws for the past two weeks. After a shaky start, they showed Saffron Walden 7s that they deserve to be at the top of the league, securing 3 goals in the first half. In the second half they weren’t able to capatalise on their chances, leaving the game at a 3-0 win.

Men’s 4s

The M4s had a very tense game against Crostyx 2s which started with them going 0-2 down in the first 20mins. They then got their act together and got it back to 2-2. They even went one better going 3-2 up. Then the real nervy hockey kicked in as cards were flying everywhere, leaving East defending their lead with only 9 men. Annoyingly, they could quite hold out letting the opposition equalise for a 3-3 draw. However, this was a great result against a very strong side.

Saturday's Away Matches

Ladies 5s

The L5s had an early start on Saturday away against Upminster 4s. They scored the first goal of the game in a short corner, but the opposition didn’t like that so equalised soon after. Then East went back into the lead and then the oppo scored against. Thankfully, this yoyoing stopped at half-time when L5s pulled together and stormed away with a 4-2 win.

Ladies 3s

The L3s came out fired up with week following their surprise defeat last Saturday. Although they let Romford 1s score in the first minute of the game, from then on they reset and took control of the game coming away with a 4-1 victory that could have been more.

Ladies 1s

After a slightly rushed start, the L1s didn’t let the sandy and sunny conditions against Southend & Benfleet 1s put them off. They showed their class winning 4-1 with a whole range of goals including reverse stick hits and top corner pushes from the top of the D.

Men’s 5s

It was a frustrating game for the M5s against Romford 1s who were 2-0 up but let the opposition back into the game for a 2-2 draw. There were moments of great hockey being played but unfortunately East could keep their form consistent throughout the game.

Men’s 2s

The M2 didn’t have the best of starts going 0-1 early on in their game against Witham 1s. East weren’t down for long though, scoring two goals in quick succession taking the score 2-1 in their favour. After giving the opposition a final chance, they put the game to bed in the second half. Final score, 4-2 win.

Ladies 6s

In the highest scoring game of the weekend by far, the L6s truly dominated their game against Old Southendian 2s. They scored 4 goals in the first 18 minutes and didn’t let the game end there. With a 7-1 lead at half-time, East weren’t finished yet. They ended the game with an outstanding 9-1 victory!

Men’s 7s

The M7s faced a tough opposition in Wapping 9s. Sadly, they weren’t able to come back from conceding 3 goals early in the the first half. Although they played much better in the second half, they couldn’t find the backboard, and Wapping could. Final score 4-0 loss.

Men's Masters

Sunday's Matches

East London Ravens

The EL Ravens defended well against a strong Tulse Hill & Dulwich side on Sunday. East successfully defended over 10 short corners, a pretty impressive feat but couldn’t get the ball up to the attackers often enough to score. Final score 6-0 loss.

East London Men’s Masters

Although they didn’t win, the Men’s Masters side had a fantastic first game against Hereford. The 5-1 scoreline doesn’t reflect all the great teamwork and fun that was had by all. In a team that ranges from M1s players to M8s and players returning from retirement, there was a lot of skillful hockey on show and an exciting game to spectate. They now move on to the shield tournament.

East London Sparrows

The EL Sparrows had a great game against the Wapping Wonders. Although they were down to 10 players, they put up a really strong fight and nearly came away with the win. There were some awesome team goals and a confident flick taking East to a narrow 3-4 defeat.
