Sarah Watts Life Membership
Posted by Daniel Goodacre on 5 May 2018
As announced at the End of Season Dinner, the club has awarded Life Membership to Sarah Watts in recognition to her years of service to the club.
In her time as both Ladies Club Captain and Hockey Development Officer, she has overseen a step change in provision of hockey at East London HC, particularly on the ladies side of the club. She was instrumental in supporting our rapid growth, addressing such varied topics as enhanced coaching provision, improved new-joiner welcomes and addressing player welfare issues. She single-handled created the Tower League to ensure that we were able to offer matches to all our members when we grew beyond the capacity of the Essex League. In addition to her committee roles, she has supported numerous teams at training and in matches as a both qualified Seasonal Coach and Level 1 umpire.
Feedback from our new members survey shows the impact she’s had on new joiners, with quotes such as “Sarah made me feel so welcome when I first arrived at the club”, “I almost didn’t turn up, but she convinced me to come along and I’m so glad I did” and “with nine teams, I don’t know how she finds time to talk everyone… but she does”. All of this was recognised when she was a finalist for the England Hockey Unsung Hero award in 2017.
On behalf of all our current and past members, a massive thank you to Sarah for all the time and effort she’s dedicated to supporting a growing the club.
